A husband and wife team, everything here is made of our own design, with our own hands, in our home shop.

about these legs
back in 2005 or so I was all about making these concrete tables
I needed ideas for steel table legs and Silvia quickly sketched out a spiral cone atop a ball onto a dinner napkin.
I said Holy Crap that's perfect! or something to that effect, stunning, sturdy, modern, within my skillset, what's not to love!

From an old sprocket, some pipe fittings, a couple of bearings and some round bar, I built a cone shaped mandrel with a crude hand crank. Powered for the first prototype by my nephew, who was quickly replaced by an electric motor

The Benches are new
I’ve long wanted a top of some kind to sell with the legs. Part of the problem is that I have no enthusiasm for repeating what others have done. It needs to be ours and it needs to be good. These Benches are just that.
I am very pleased with how the benches have come together. The strength of the panel, the attachment hardware for the legs, the fact that it employs Silvia’s upholstery skills, all of this is just wonderful.

Stress testing the 59" bench with over a thousand pounds of gravel in 50lb sacks
When I first learned of stressed skin panels, I was immediately struck by their lack of broader use in our modern world. The walls of our homes for instance, would be of vastly higher quality in every way, if they were made in such a manner. The stressed skin panel is a benevolent gift of nature, and should be all over our manufactured landscape!
